Cultural Kaleidoscope – Russian
To provide multicultural knowledge of Russia to include dance, music, alphabet, language, cultures, ways of life, countryside, schools, libraries, and modes of transportation. To encourage reading about additional countries as a means of learning about the heritage of people.
Evaluations: 324 completed by individuals of all ages, 10 evaluations completed by adults on behalf of 197 children. Comments from the 197 children surveyed by adults. The children would like to learn more about: "More Russian words, more stories, dances, more information about Russia and the history of Russia." "Dolls, food, clothes, building, schools, what kids do for fun, types of work." "The Russian alphabet." The children enjoyed: "Music/dancing." "Music, instruments, everything!" "Instruments, dancing, alphabet, slides of Russia, story, music, shoring map." Comments from the 324 evaluations completed by individuals of all ages: What did you enjoy most about this program? "History and architecture of Russia." "The art and music is first class. We have so much to learn about our world and its people." "An appreciation for other cultures." "The presenter was able to dance and play all the instruments. He was good at getting the audience involved." "I liked the focus on traditional Russian music and dances." "All of it, but mostly the ending performance of the spoons." What did you learn from attending this program? "The difference of cultures between the U.S. and Russia." "How Russians live, a lot of examples of how the U.S. is similar and different." "A lot of historical things about Russia."
"I learned about Russia and the Russian alphabet." "Music, art, clothes." What did you think about this program? "It was the best I've ever seen." "It was wonderful and fun for all ages!" Pioneerland Library System and Ortonville Elementary, Middle, and High Schools, Ortonville Public Library, Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council, Ortonville Friends of the Library. Partner Organization Contribution/Role in the Program: Ortonville Elementary, Middle and High Schools provided the location for the assemblies, arranged with teachers for the time and dates, and helped to promote the programs. The Ortonville School District provided $250 for printed programs.
Ortonville Public Library coordinated the programs, arranged funding, and promoted through radio, print, flyers and bookmarks. Ortonville Friends of the Library provided refreshments for the evening assemblies.
Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council provided a $2500.00 grant to contribute to programs costs, and provided posters.
