Project Overview
Violinist Paul Bagley received his doctorate in violin last year from the University of Maryland, College Park. Currently, he performs in several ensembles in the D.C. area, and he has played in the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra for the past ten years. In the summers, Dr. Bagley also teaches for the Quartet Project in Duluth, an intense chamber music program for middle and high school string players. Cellist, Aleksander Tengesdal studied cello at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland and now plays with the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra. Equally versatile with classical music and contemporary works, Aleks also composes and performs his own work.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The intended outcome of the event tickets program is to create access to professional art (music and theatre) by providing free tickets to a live performance. Live art is dynamic; patrons can experience and be inspired by the energy that comes from a live performance. When patrons pick up free event tickets at the library they fill out a short survey answering questions about how many Legacy events they have attended, who they are attending with, how they heard about the tickets, if they could attend without these tickets and if they knew that Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund paid for these tickets. Only one survey is filled out regardless of how many tickets are picked up at the library.

Measurable Outcome(s)

80 tickets were used for a 40% return rate. Our surveys indicated 34 of the patron groups that attended had never attended a Legacy funded event or had only attended one other event. 43 groups also indicated they would probably not be able to attend if these tickets were not available.

Source of Additional Funds

The Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra agreed to a 20% reduction in ticket price for reimbursement of tickets. This savings allows us to participate in more ticketed programs and issue more tickets to live performances. 13 libraries distributed tickets and 14 regional newspapers provided marketing through press releases, photos and interviews with artists and performers.
