Sara Pajunen's Laatikko/Box
The intended outcome of the arts program is to allow patrons to enjoy original music and high-caliber performances while learning about other cultures. Encouraging them to reflect on the relation of their own upbringing to this music and exposing them to new forms of music, dance and library experiences. A survey was distributed to receive feedback from those attending the programs.
Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 72% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 98% strongly agreed that they would attend a similar event. Comments: Moody music played while we read immigrant letters made them all the more poignant. I heard music I had never heard before and want to hear again. The music and poetic experience became an hour long journey. I realized that I have heard many stories from my parents and grand parent that I must find a way to preserve for the next generation. This program stirred something in my heart and I will grow stronger and will not fear change.
20 libraries provided space, staff, and additional promotion for the programs and approximately 16 regional newspapers provided marketing through press releases, photos and interviews with artists and performers.
