Have you been told you are funny? Have you ever considered becoming a stand-up comedian? Or thought of writing comedy routines? Then attend Sit Down with a Stand Up, Scott Novotny’s comedy writing program that incorporates the history and culture of stand-up comedy in Minnesota and its development since the 1970’s.

The intended outcome is to inspire attendees to read, express themselves creatively, and or /explore parts of Minnesota.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 97% agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and that they would attend a similar event. Participants liked the insight into how to develop stories, how to view the world with a comedy twist, and the historical perspective on comedy. Participants learned that comedy is art & fun, how to set up material, create an act, and the history of comedy in Minnesota. Participants noted it was "enjoyable, interesting, and informative regarding comedy in all aspects".

Source of Additional Funds

The following public libraries provided space, staff, and additional promotion for the programs: Babbitt, Buhl, Cloquet, Duluth, Eveleth, grand Rapids, Hibbing, Hoyt Lakes, International Falls, two Harbors, and Virginia libraries and approximately 10 regional newspapers.
