Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra - Cultures of Latin America
The intended outcome of the arts program is to allow patrons to enjoy original music and high-caliber performances while learning about other cultures. Encouraging them to reflect on the relation of their own upbringing to this music and exposing them to new forms of music, dance and library experiences.
Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 95% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 95% strongly agreed that they would attend a similar event. Participants liked the enthusiasm, professional and knowledgeable musicians and how they interacted with the audience with instruments not seen very often. Participants learned about a new style of music and the countries it originated in. Some additional comments included "thank you it was fun" and "we need more culture here."
The following public libraries provided space, staff, and additional promotion for the programs: Baudette, Grand Rapids, International Falls, Two Harbors, and Virginia libraries and approximately 8 regional newspapers.
