Project Overview
His LARL program, Lake Agassiz: Drawn to History, proves to area residents that if it had not been for the original Lake Agassiz, the largest glacial lake in the history of the world, the Red River (and likely all of us) would never have been here. The Red River Valley set the stage for the development of northwestern Minnesota and the growth and importance of North Dakota as one of the leading agricultural states in the U.S. Nine presentations of this program took place over three days from November 5, 2013 to November 7, 2013.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants and audience members will be exposed to the origins and significance of the original Lake Agassiz, the largest glacial lake in world history that was responsible for the formation of the Red River Valley of the North and the richness of the sediments and soil that were responsible for some of the most fertile farmland in world history. Audiences will see and hear the story of Swiss scientist Louis Agassiz, for whom the lake is named. Participants will learn about the development, naming, settlement and origin of the Moorhead and Fargo towns that were named and launched by the railroad to become influential in the creation of the great Bonanza Farms, the largest wheat farms in the world. This program, in its unique learning presentation format of hearing a historically dressed speaker tell as well as fast-draw in charcoal, the story on 20-foot rolls of paper, is creative, informative, accurate, entertaining and memorable.

Measurable Outcome(s)

A sample of survey results asking "what did you like best about the program" are: He brought history alive, his sketches were excellent and things even more interesting; Informative, action packed, the illustrations really add to the presentation, great presenter; Learning about Minnesota history.
