Project Overview
An educator from the Textile Center demonstrated how different kinds of animal furs and fibers from Minnesota are used to make yarn, clothing, and art. Youth had the opportunity to touch and feel the the raw material and use them to create artwork. This program took place at four locations in the LARL region on June 18 and 19, 2014.

The youth of Mahnomen, Fosston, Bagley, and Detroit Lakes will learn about where fibers come from and how they are transformed for practical and artistic use. LARL will provide a survey for families and individuals to fill out regarding their experience and what they learned.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Comments received from the program included: The kids seems to really enjoy partnering up to spin their own yarn. The also loved pictures of all the different varieties of sheep and the examples of the wool from each; Kids especially liked all of the samples brought and the chance to make their own fiber project.
