Project Overview
At the Waseca event, acclaimed Minnesota author David Treuer talked about 'Prudence', a captivating work of historical fiction set in a northern Minnesota resort and the nearby Ojibwe reservation in 1930-1950. The novel tackles the history of German POW camps during WWII in Minnesota. Treuer talked about how his father took him to the POW camp as a child, how the name 'Prudence' came from the name of Ernest Hemingway's first lover, and other insider details.
The Le Sueur event, Treuer spoke more generally about his work, focusing primarily on his nonfiction book 'Rez Life'. In this book, Treuer brings a novelist's storytelling skill and an eye for detail to a complex and subtle examination of Native American reservation life, past and present.
