String Art Stationary and Lavender Sachets with the Textile Center
Artists from the Textile Center in Minneapolis will bring attendees to a time when needle and thread gave endless possibilities to transform plain pieces of paper or squares of fabric into unique and beautiful gifts. Participants will reconnect with a forgotten skill learned long ago and/or honor a skill from previous generations.
23 participated
This activity encourages participants to unplug from the digital world and pick up a needle and thread. Some will enjoy creating string art masterpieces and others will learn basic embroidery stitching. These skills will bring back memories of doing needlework. For others, this could be a new skill they will fall in love with.
All participants indicated they enjoyed learning a new skill and indicated they would do this again on their own after learning techniques. The age of the participants ranged from 6 to 96 and everyone had a great time interacting in a multigenerational environment. Many older participants shared stories of using similar techniques with needle and thread to embroider dish towels and table runners in their younger years.
