Project Overview

In their first visit to our library, the Oz Brothers (Jeff Kortman and Tom Hendricks) will take kids ages 5 to 11 through the story of The Wizard of Oz using a large, pop-up storybook, full costumes and make-up and props. Very interactive, the audience will join in the story by making sound effects, giving suggestions on getting through the twists and turns and playing characters. This program originated in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, home of the Judy Garland Museum.

Jeff Kortman has been an actor for over 45 years and is a guitarist. Tom Hendricks is an actor and a singer. Because it is so highly interactive and so unique in its style, I believe that this will be a great new addition to our summer roster. In addition, because this is booked through Homeward Bound Theatre Company in Chanhassen, it is well vetted.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The audience will enjoy the professional, fun and highly interactive presentation by The Oz Brothers as they bring the beloved story of the Wizard of Oz to life. Audience participation will be maximized by the participants engaging in the production and providing the storyline and sound effects. This program should inspire the young audience to explore their creative side and performing arts and inspire reading as a life-long habit that will serve them well in the years ahead. The audience will be informally surveyed by observation and post-program anecdotal responses.
