KKWE - Tamarac Whispers, The Nature Challenge
This project will engage the audience in an active listening experience. Each segment will provide clues (verbal or sounds) that relates to a plant or wild animal common the area. The audience will be asked to guess the animal name or plant featured and after a few minute interlude, the answer will be revealed along with historical information which could include medicinal about the plant or animal. Conservation messages related to that species will also be revealed. This will be a biweekly program
Tamarac Whispers will increase knowledge and awareness of the history of the environment and our local wildlife refuge. More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, and incomes will have access to more information about our surrounding ecosystem and it's history. KKWE will provide an estimated number of listeners reached through radio broadcasts, estimated number of people reached through the internet and social media, as well as the number of stations that aired the program. This is a collaborative project between Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, located in Becker County, MN on the White Earth Reservation.
$1,600,000 each year is appropriated for a grant to the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations for production and acquisition grants in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 129D.19.
