KKWE - Annishinaabe DEBWE
This project will vividly bring to life the art and culture of the Ojibwe people of our region. It will teach traditional art and stories of the peole to an off reservation border community. We will live broadcast from each event and create a program from each series of lessons to air on KKWE. Four programs will be produced and archived.
The Debwe Project will be in a family friendly venue, welcoming young, old, students, and professionals, to come together to support local artists. The fourteen events will increase exposure for the artists will increase their ability to earn income from their art. More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, and incomes will have access to information about the culture of Minnesota's' Native American population.
$1,600,000 each year is appropriated for a grant to the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations for production and acquisition grants in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 129D.19.
