KKWE - Gichi Aya'aag Bizindaw ya
Gichi Aya'aag Bizindaw ya will focus on personal histories of our Ojibwe elders. This will include personal historic knowledge of the changes they've experienced in Indian country and beyond. This will include the changes they've seen due to federal policy as well as state policy. The Gichi Aya'aag Bizindaw Ya project will bring the history of local communities to the listening area and beyond through our streaming ability. We will target villages and communities within the boundaries of the White Earth Indian Reservation and beyond to other Ojibwe reservations in Minnesota. These programs will be 10 minutes and will be broadcast and be assessable through our website and PRX.This is weekly program.
$1,600,000 each year is appropriated for a grant to the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations for production and acquisition grants in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 129D.19.
Gichi Aya'aag Bizindaw Ya will interweave culture and history throughout our listening area into more facets of community life. More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, and incomes will learn about our regional history from the eyes of our elders. More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, and incomes will hear stories about White Earth Reservation history including village history, clan history and stories about who we are and how we became. Gichi Aya'aag Bizindaw Ya will increase the knowledge and awareness of the way history affects people's lives and how that knowledge can help people make informed decisions for the future. This project is a collaboration between Niijii Radio and the Minnesota Indian Council of Elders.
