KKWE - Niijii's Pow-Wow Trail
This biweekly program will allow Ojibwe drum groups, dancers, and other artists from the communities in the listening area to attend, display and record their art at various pow-wows throughout Minnesota. The project will collect photos and artwork that share the culture of the Native American people around the state. The recorded, culturally significant, music and interviews will be produced into half hour programs that will air bi weekly on KKWE and statewide through online streaming. The art of photography and videography will be displayed on the stations website.
$1,600,000 each year is appropriated for a grant to the Association of Minnesota Public Educational Radio Stations for production and acquisition grants in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 129D.19.
Niijii's pow-wow trail will interweave Native American culture into more facets of non-Native communities More Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, and incomes will have access to information about the culture of Minnesota's' Native American population. Minnesota's local Native American artist drum groups will have an opportunity to be heard on the radio. KKWE will provide an estimated number of listeners reached through radio broadcasts, estimated number of people reached through the internet and social media, as well as the number of stations that aired the program.
