Art & Culture Live!: Community Collaborations - Storytelling with Kevin Strauss
Storytelling with Kevin Strauss brought noted storyteller Kevin Strauss to Pine Island for the Van Horn Public Library (Pine Island, MN). Strauss told age appropriate stories in three sessions of 45 minutes; one each for grades K-2, 3-4, and 5-6.

Partner Organization(s) Contribution/Role in the Program: The local American Legion provided their space to accommodate the size of the groups. The Pine Island Public Schools assisted in the evaluation of the program by conducting surveys of the classes.
Program Outputs: Outputs are things you can count such as attendance, number of new participants, and the number of attendees who had never been at a similar event, and so on.
3 programs had a total of 732 students, teachers, or parents attend.

A survey was conducted per classroom for 25 classes on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest. The overall event scored 18 5’s and 7 4’s with no class rating it below that. Comments from the evaluation show the students understood the significance of stories and the cultures that create them. These included: “We pass stories on to others,”“Stories come from different countries and many sound the same,”“People came to MN from many different countries and ethnic backgrounds,” and“I learned what a storyteller is and that everyone can be one.”
