Project Overview

A Hobbit-nista Gathering supplemented a visit of the Theatre Sans Fil to perform The Hobbit at the Page Theatre of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (Winona, MN). The subgrant featured an art contest for children, dramatic readings from The Hobbit by the University’s Theatre majors, and complimentary tickets for The Hobbit. The winning art pieces from the contest were displayed in the lobby of the Page Theatre.

Event Dates and Locations:
February 6, 2010 – Art contest, ticket drawing, and dramatic readings at the Winona Public Library (Winona, MN)
February 9, 2010 – Display of contest winners for the performance of The Hobbit at the Page Theatre of Saint Mary’s University (Winona, MN)

Project Details

Partner Organization(s): Winona Public Library

Partner Organization(s) Contribution/Role in the Program: The Library hosted the main part of the program and provided art supplies for the contest.

Program Outputs: Outputs are things you can count such as attendance, number of new participants, and the number of attendees who had never been at a similar event, and so on.

40 people attended the event at the Library. Since this was less than the number of complimentary tickets available, all 40 were part of the audience at the Theatre.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Measurable Outcomes may be collected by survey, anecdotal responses, post-test; End user change in Behavior, Attitude, Skills, Knowledge, Condition and/or Status

Measurable Outcome(s)

The return rate of the surveys was very low thus substantial outcomes cannot be concluded.  Through interviews with patrons at the show, it was discovered that at least two families participated who had never taken their children to a live theatrical performance before.
