Project Overview

See It Now… Freeborn County Memories was aimed at collecting and preserving oral histories of citizens of Freeborn County through the efforts of the Albert Lea Public Library (Albert Lea, MN). The subgrant focused on Phase 1 of a three stage plan for a multigenerational collection which mostly concerned World War II. Nine interviews were recorded on video, compiled to 2 different DVDs, and put on circulation at the Albert Lea Public Library. A copy is also available through the Minnesota collection at SELCO.

June 8, 2010 – Premiere and introduction of DVDs to circulation and archives at the Albert Lea Public Library (Albert Lea, MN)

The Premiere night hosted 50 attendees.

2 DVDs were created (See It Now Freeborn County Memories Highlights and See It Now Freeborn County Memories Volume I).
The online version of Highlights was downloaded 68 times between July 20 and August 23.

Measurable Outcome(s)

From a total of 30 respondents to a survey, all thirty agreed to one degree or another that viewing the completed product increased interest in preserving family and local history for future generations.  One response that best summarizes general feeling was “Its effort to preserve local history & memories that otherwise would not have been done.”
