Project Overview

Kenyan Music and Storytelling Program had Kenya native Anna Mwalagho and her band perform at the Rochester Public Library (Rochester, MN). Mwalagho and two musicians from Minneapolis performed her show which included singing, poetry, storytelling, and dancing.

Kilimanjaro provided assistance with booking Mwalagho and setting up travel arrangements.

The program had 88 people attend, lower than expected.

On a scale of 1-5 with 5 as the highest, 71% of the 42 respondents thought it was a satisfactory program with 12% rating it a 4 and 16% rating it a 3. 98% agreed that they learned something new about Kenyan culture and music and90% agreed it gave a better understanding of Kenya and its people.  Comments following the program included: “Too band there weren’t more people here,”“Amazingly refreshing,”“Promotes pride, understanding and therefore justice,” and“She gave a good perspective in any culture education.”
