Art & Culture Live!: Community Collaborations - CLIMB Theatre performance of “Stubby the Elephant”
CLIMB Theatre performance of “Stubby the Elephant” at the Lake City Public Library brought CLIMB Theatre to the Lake City Public Library (Lake City, MN) to perform an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Elephant Child. The performance featured the play followed by a session of audience participation. This program supplemented the summer reading program at the Library which was meant to promote reading and literacy to children ages preschool through 4th grade.

June 22, 2010 – Performance of Stubby the Elephant at the City Hall Ballroom (Lake City, MN)
The entire week of the program had lower than average attendance for summer reading program activities. This performance had 125 people attend. Following the program, the Library experienced a 40% increase in circulation of related materials, including some that hadn’t circulated in over four years.

A poll of ten children following the program showed 100% of respondents enjoyed the program and expressed a continued interest in the fables of Kipling. 90% of the children wanted to learn more about drama and the performing arts and 80% expressed interest in attending further library programs and more often utilizing the library in general.
