SELCO offered a Special Legacy Program in the spring of 2019, partnering with documentary artist James A. Bowey. James shared stories, photographs, and conversations from When Home Won't Let You Stay, his traveling exhibition about refugees in Minnesota.

Following this program, everyone agreed that they were likely to return to the library to attend future programs. People responded that they consider the library a place to experience cultural exchanges, and they appreciated the images and stories that prompted conversations and shared learning. Comments included, "Thought provoking; So informative; Unbiased perspective; " and "Several attendees mentioned the importance of empathetic imagination, expanding understanding of a timely subject matter and understanding that liberty has two parts." " Jim's passion made it even more engaging."
