Community Collaboration: Book to Movie Winter Reading Program
The Book to Movie Winter Reading Program involved reading three books then showing the movies that were created from the books. Several library copies of the books were available at the Wabasha Public Library. The program included a teen book/movie "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," a child's book/movie "Captain Underpants," and an adult book/movie "Hidden Figures." Discussion on the books and movies took place prior to and following the public viewing of the movies. Discussion questions were developed by the library staff and the local arts council member.
51 participated
In additions to surveying about who has read the book before the movie, there was also discussion about differences and similarities between the two.
Books circulated from movie attendees numbered 11. The program was a success, we didn't have high numbers for attendance but the exposure to the community was great. Several people asked about the program and appreciated the opportunity to attend a movie within the Wabasha community. The discussions were well received and well participated within the audiences. The Sunday afternoon group asked for another book to movie program with discussion for the following month.
