Project Overview

The project activity is the design and production of 100 copies of a 224-page print book, The Enduring Thing We Do Today: A History of the Northfield Public Library. The design work involves taking, selecting, and captioning additional images, creating image collages, adding 8 or more pages of new images, and adjusting the layout to accommodate the additional material. The design work will be done by Nancy Ashmore, who edited the manuscript and designed the E-book version. The printing work will be contracted through an open procurement process.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Measurement Methods
1. Participants at the Book Launch will complete a program evaluation documenting what they learned about the library.
2. A book evaluation will accompany a PDF copy of the print book on the Library web site.
3. The Library and Friends will offer a two-session book club discussion with the author, Library director, and Friends President in the fall of 2016. Participants will complete an evaluation

Measurable Outcome(s)

The attendees of the programs really enjoyed hearing about how writers completed their local research.
Many of the attendees had used the library for a number of years, and said how they enjoyed learning new information on the Northfield Public Library and Carnegie libraries. Doug Ohman's stories on libraries drew a lot of interest, and the audience commented on the libraries they recognized and had visited.
We sold 35 copies of the book.

Most people who returned the evaluation rated the program at 5 out of 5, excellent.
One person rated the program as 4+

We listed 6 topics of information and respondents learned about all the topics.
Doug Ohman was very popular with the attendees.
Our attendees like programs about the history of libraries, the Northfield community, architecture, and Minnesota in general.
We always do advertising for our program but it is clear from our survey about how important it is for library staff to advertise our programs. Several people said they heard about this program from library staff.
