Project Overview

The 37 acre Sibley WMA located near the Sibley and Nicollet County line is mainly comprised of a restored prairie wetland complex with a riparian lowland / brush-land forest component. The unit is managed for Deer, Small Game, Forest Upland Birds, Pheasants, Waterfowl, Turkey, and Doves. This unit is a very productive WMA in terms of hunter use and wild game presence, with increased management the improvements will likely continue to support the population of game at this location in a positive way. Tree removal on the west and center of the property will be needed to achieve management goals, these trees are large and will likely require mechanical removal. This project requires removal of a previously planted stand of woody cover, the area wildlife manager has spoke with the pheasants forever chapter who assisted in this planting and has determined that the chapter is in support of the removal if it will help meet management goals.
