Project Overview

The Audubon Center of the North Woods (ACNW) seeks to purchase two separate properties, both adjacent to its current boundaries in an effort to protect and preserve these lands for future generations' enjoyment, outdoor recreation and education. The Audubon Center of the North Woods is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit residential environmental learning center that has a 48 year history of environmental education and land stewardship. Our property consists of 635 acres of old growth hardwoods, virgin white pines, mature red pine stands, restored wetlands, prairies and oak savanna. Our focus on land management and protecting and improving the biological health of our land is core to our mission, and this once in a lifetime opportunity to protect multiple forest lots from development and fragmentation, while increasing our contiguous property is incredibly exciting. We see this as a chance to protect for perpetuity diverse forests that will serve as a biological reserve for indigenous plants and animals and provide outdoor recreation for generations to come.
