Project Overview

Common buckthorn, an invasive brush species, has been identified throughout the Tallgrass Aspen Parkland habitat. Buckthorn has been invading aspen stands within area WMA sites and is needed to be controlled and monitored to help prevent the spread of this invasive species. Control efforts will enhance the forest understory for many wildlife species. The Tallgrass Aspen Parkland habitat also needs frequent prescribed fire and brush control efforts. Staffing, wet conditions, and brush encroachment has impeded fire and has degraded area WMA sites. Maintaining the open prairie landscape is essential for many of the wildlife species that depend on them.
