Altnow Marsh WMA Enhancement
Currently the 147 acre Altnow Marsh Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located outside the city of Gaylord, MN is experiencing excessive tree growth and is in need of tree and non-native shrub removal to continue to manage the property and reach its specified goals to adequately support wildlife during all seasons in a calendar year. What is desired to be prairie habitat is now showing tree growth, after completion of this project, trees and non-native shrubs will be removed mechanically throughout a 28 acre portion of the property, and then burned in desired locations specified by local MN DNR Wildlife Management staff. After completion of this project the WMA will offer proper nesting habitat for waterfowl and pheasants, along with excellent grazing and bedding areas for whitetail deer.
