Little Clubhouse Lake
This acquisition is directly adjacent to the Dagg project (CPL-funded in 2016) and will add critical common loon-nesting shoreline habitat in the Chippewa National Forest along Little Clubhouse Lake. The Conservation Fund is partnering with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to protect this land that will ultimately be owned by the USFS and incorporated into the Chippewa National Forest, which is home to over 250 wildlife species, and 180 nesting pairs of bald eagles, one pair of which is nesting on the property in this proposal. This property, along with the previous Dagg project, have been priority parcels for acquisition for the USFS because of the undeveloped shoreline protection opportunity. In addition to improving public access, this area is important nesting habitat for the common loon, and is a loon index area that is monitored by volunteers involved with the Minnesota Loon Monitoring Program within the Department of Natural Resource Non-game Wildlife Program. Ensuring this shoreline remains undeveloped is important for ideal common loon habitat.
