Project Overview
The site for this project is Prairie Creek Wildlife Management Area, which contains several rare habitat types, including Dry Hill Prairie, Dry Hill Oak Savanna, and Maple-Basswood (Big Woods) Forest. The goal of the project is enhancement of prairie and savanna habitats by managing invasive species and harvesting native seeds for use in other areas of the WMA. Buckthorn control will be accomplished using hand crews to identify, cut, and stump-treat individual stems with herbicides, along with prescribed burning. Invasive broadleaf plants will be controlled by hand-pulling, spot-mowing, clipping, and spot-treating selected specimens and populations with herbicides.
