Project Overview
The majority of the Little Nokasippi River WMA is forested (bur & red oak) with two old fields and over 4 miles of shoreline along the Nokasippi and Lt. Nokasippi Rivers. Most of the oak stands on this WMA were pastured up to 20+- years ago, but have been heavily encroached with prickly ash and hazel once grazing ceased. The goal of this project is to restore 40 acres of the bur oak type to an oak savanna (mow/herbicide/burn) and encourage oak regeneration in 40+ acres of the red oak type (mow/gaps created by a timber sale/burn).
