Project Overview
Rockwood and Sebeka WMA's are both located in Wadena County and have good oak hardwood stands. The oak stands are old and need to be harvested to regenerate the oak. Without controlling the buckthorn in the understory oak will not regenerate after harvesting and the stand will convert entirely to buckthorn. During the fall months of the growing season buckthorn plants can easily be identified with their lingering green leaves. CCM crews will be able to identify plants and apply herbicide to the leaves and stems of plants. Two to three years of treatment is required to control buckthorn because of the many sprouts and seed production.
