Project Overview
The proposed project will restore and enhance 20 acres of previously farmed agricultural land on the Straight Creek WPA Unit in Steele County. Project activities are to restore prairie upland and wetland habitat by preparing the area for seeding, purchasing native eco-type seed, broadcasting native seed, and release mowing seeded areas. This project will establish native tallgrass prairie and hydrophytic vegetation to provide habitat for pollinators and increase nesting success of migratory birds. Establishment of native prairie and wetland vegetation will benefit ecosystem services such as: plant community diversity and richness, reduction of sedimentation and nutrient loading, flood water retention, and wildlife suitability.
