Project Overview
The prairies in West Central Minnesota are experiencing a shortage of open seasonal wetlands in this era of grassland conversion, and end up being completely covered by dense invasive cattails making them unusable by migrating waterfowl. Waterfowl and a host of other wildlife populations will decline further without this crucial quality habitat enhancement. Open water seasonal wetlands are often laden with invertebrate food for waterfowl. Our project will involve sediment removal, spraying, and mowing invasive cattails in seasonal wetland sites starting in August, when the plants start to decline, and further into the fall if conditions remain dry enough to access the sites.
