Project Overview
The Rollie Johnson Natural and Recreational Area consists of three islands on Upper Whitefish Lake in Crow Wing County. All three islands have had major restoration work done on the high, sandy slopes and along the eroding shoreline, but still smaller areas need to be protected from damage caused each year by wind and wave action. Methods include cutting back vegetation to allow the Coco mat fabric to come in contact with the soil; spreading native grass, flower and oat seeds over the area; on steep slopes, AEC Sediment Logs are staked in place to make several tiers six feet wide; bare root trees and shrubs are planted through the fabric; Coir logs are staked and tied in place; and wetland bare root stock is planted along the toe with willow tree stakes.
