Project Overview
The Tallgrass Aspen Parklands remains one of the most intact tallgrass prairie habitats on the continent, and two major challenges of habitat management are brush encroachment in grasslands and treating small but scattered populations of invasive species. Many prairie parkland species will benefit from a reduction in brush and invasive species. A CCM crew will treat buckthorn infestations with hand cutting and herbicide application. Once surveys and treatments are completed upon the WMAs with known buckthorn infestations, the crew will continue work on other WMAs within Marshall, Roseau, and Kittson Counties. When conditions allow the crew will aid in prescribed fire on WMA lands within the Tallgrass Aspen Parklands to help with brush encroachment, maintaining open landscapes, and rejuvenating prairie.
