CWC Natural Resource Protection & Enhancement
There is a tract of private land in section 31 of the City of Cuyuna that is for sale. There is County managed land on both sides (east and west) of this private tract and the only reasonable access to approximately 450 acres of County land is thru this private tract. If this tract were to sell, the new owner could deny the County access, seriously impeding the County's ability to manage the natural resources in that area, as well as jeopardizing the snowmobile trail and other proposed future mountain bike trails in this area. The 450 acres of County land behind the private tract consists of rolling to steep topography and is some of the best oak forest in the County. The County recently had the property appraised, and the current landowner has agreed to sell the property to the County at the appraised price. The plan is to submit 3 separate grants, 1 per year over the next 3 years, for each of the parcels the County wishes to acquire.
