State Fair Stories
You know what the State Fair is like now, but do you ever wonder how it came to be? With its roots in agriculture, the Minnesota State Fair has been a fixture of Minnesota since its first territorial fair in 1855. With a mix of historical facts, anecdotes and photographs depicting agriculture, competitions, entertainment and exhibits, patrons saw how the State Fair was and is a feast for the senses.

The intended outcome of the historic program is to allow patrons the opportunity to learn about Minnesota history and preserve our heritage. A survey was distributed to receive feedback from those attending the programs.
Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 90% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 85% strongly agreed that they would attend a similar event. Comments: It was interesting how world events played a part in what happened at the fair. I loved the history - when it started in the early years and how many buildings are gone. The walking tour brochure is something I will take people on when they visit. Always interested about anything about MN history!
15 libraries provided space, staff, and additional promotion for the programs and approximately 10 regional newspapers provided marketing through press releases, photos and interviews with artists and performers.
