Oboe Bass-Spirit Sings
The Spirit Sings explored the legacy of African Americans and their contribution to American music, from slave songs that evolve into our unique American music form, jazz. As the world’s only professional oboe/bass duo, Erdahl and Vecchione have had a unique career focused on reaching, involving, and educating people through the creative power of music.

The intended outcome of the music program is to allow patrons the opportunity to experience a wide variety of music genres that they would not normally be introduced to on the Iron Range. Programs will expand knowledge of culture and its various genres. A survey was distributed to receive feedback from those attending the programs.
Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 90% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 85% strongly agreed that they would attend a similar event. Comments: "Love tying the music to history and books." "Legacy funds are vital in bringing the arts to our rural community." "The history aspect was very cool."
13 libraries provided space, staff, and additional promotion for the programs and approximately 10 regional newspapers provided marketing through press releases, photos and interviews with artists and performers.
