Up North Coloring Book
Arrowhead Library System patrons of all ages are invited to submit original artwork for the 2016 Coloring Book Design Contest. The Arrowhead Library System seeks to create a coloring book for all patrons visiting local libraries through the use of LEGACY funds from the State of Minnesota Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
Theme: Up North
Suggested drawings might, but need not include:
•Historic locations
•Nature
•City/town representations
•Up North activities
32 participated
The intended outcome of the arts program is to allow patrons the opportunity to create hands-on art projects and develop their skills as visual artists, such as creative problem solving, self-expression, small motor development, etc. A survey was distributed to receive feedback from those attending the programs.
Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 82% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 77% strongly agreed that they would attend a similar event. Comments: 'Great idea! Neat pictures!' 'Great idea! Wish we could have printed more books.' 'Those whose pictures were in the book were very excited.'
29 libraries provided space (1 partnered for a program to be held at a school), staff, and additional promotion for the programs and approximately 15 regional newspapers provided marketing through press releases, photos and interviews with artists and performers.
