Project Overview

The Audubon Center of the North Woods will present a porcupine quill workshop at the Chisago Lakes Area Library in June 2017 for ages 12-17 where they will meet a live porcupine and then create a quilled design on a birch bark medallion.

Attendees will complete a survey following the program and attendance will be recorded. Expected Outcomes include: Attendees will meet a live porcupine while learning about their natural history and then create a quilled design on a birch bark medallion to take home after observing a demonstration of the artistic quill embroidery technique.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Outcomes included the following comments: I loved the porcupine and learning how hard it is to do quill embroidery; best part was putting the quills in the birch wood; The craft was simple yet engaging.
