Project Overview

Experience original folk songs from husband-and-wife duo, Curtis & Loretta. Together, they deliver beautiful harmonies and play several instruments, including folk harp, guitars, mandocello, and banjo. Their latest album, When There's Good to Be Done, features story-songs of Minnesota's unsung heroes.

Loretta wrote each of the songs about real-life people who have experienced great challenges in their lives and came out stronger for the journey. She interviewed each person, then crafted their story into a folk song. These are ordinary people with extraordinary qualities.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The intended outcome of the musical storytelling program was for patrons to learn more about original folk music and new instruments including folk harp, guitars, mandocello, and banjo. A survey was distributed to receive feedback from those attending the programs.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 99% of attendees found the program thought-provoking and enjoyable and 99% noted they would attend another similar Legacy event sponsored by the library. Here are some comments from patrons who attended the programs:
*"Beautiful music, pictures on screen, great stories of real people."
*"I liked the upbeat music with lyrics that included mention of MN."
*"A perfect library program -- entertaining, educating, and community-enhancing."
*"Music and stories were very touching. Made me realize again how important our actions are to people we encounter."
*"Event showed there is so much about MN and its people that you cannot get through movies, books, etc. -- whole presentation was wonderful!"

Source of Additional Funds
