Drums and Percussion of the World-Robin Anders
Robin Ander's Drums and Percussion of the World, was a free program offered for ages 10-adult. Patrons enjoyed a demonstration of several different drums and percussion instruments from many cultures on five continents including: Africa, North and South America, Asia, India and the Middle East.
Robin has toured in these countries performing, teaching and doing workshops for over 45 years. His Middle Eastern percussion video "Voices of the Doumbek" is available in libraries in most major cities all over the world. He has great stories and anecdotes from his travels that are both entertaining and educational.
The program ended with an audience participation segment where Robin invited everyone to play together on percussion instruments and to experience the drums first hand.
495 participated
The intended outcome of the music/dance program is to allow patrons to enjoy a variety of different styles of music and dance. Patrons will learn about the culture and the history of different countries and cultures as they experience a wide variety of music/dance. A survey was distributed to receive feedback from those attending the programs.
Surveys were distributed to participants at all programs. 94% strongly agreed that this was an enjoyable experience and 86% strongly agreed that they would attend a similar event. Comments: I liked the interesting facts from science and math that relate to music. There was very interesting information about the drums and about the science of sounds. I loved the meditative sounds and the hands-on experience. Playing drums together at the end was the best!
22 libraries provided space, staff, and additional promotion for the programs and approximately 10 regional newspapers provided marketing through press releases, photos and interviews with artists and performers.
