Project Overview

10,000 Fresh Voices: KFAI will produce and broadcast its award-winning series that consists of four-to-six-minute segments that will showcase Minnesota's rich cultural heritage focusing on Twin Cities' artists, its culture, as well as the state's history. The segments will air on KFAI and will cover the wide range of stories and voices that make up Minnesota's rich history and diverse population.

MinneCulture In-Depth: KFAI will produce 25-to-30-minute radio programs that take a deeper look at our diverse local communities, historians, artists, and listeners from a cultural and historical perspective. MinneCulture In-Depth consists of documentary and conversational programs showcasing Minnesota's arts, culture, history, and environment.

MinneCulture Podcasts: KFAI will produce podcasts showcasing Minnesota's rich culture, history, as well as our diverse artists. Each podcast will be 10-to-30-minutes long that listeners can access on-demand wherever they get their podcasts The podcasts help KFAI to reach new and younger listeners and significantly extend the radio station's terrestrial reach.

Live From Minnesota: KFAI will collaborate with musicians and artists to create a performance series consisting of three events that will take place at local broadcast facilities and Minnesota landmarks. KFAI will record both audio and video of the performances. The audio will be used to create three (3) 30-minute radio programs. The video recordings will be shared with a local television, online, and through social media.

The Hidden Black Foodways of Minnesota: KFAI will produce two-to-four (2-4) 15-to-45-minute audio documentaries focusing on the cooking, cuisine, recipes, restaurants, bar owners, and entrepreneurs from Minnesota's African American community. The segments will air on KFAI and be available on-demand as podcasts. The programs will share understated aspects of Minnesota history and cultural heritage as told members of Minnesota's African American community.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The programs in project #3 will result in more locally and Minnesota-focused content produced by public radio than would exist on KFAI without this Legacy funding.
The survey at the end of the fiscal year, as well as tracking YouTube views and podcast downloads will show that more Minnesotans of all ages, ethnicities, and incomes had increased access to the arts, culture, and history than they would have if the programs in project #3 were not produced.
Tracking the number of artists featured will show more Minnesota artists and musicians will have their work showcased through public media, giving them direct exposure to a much larger audience than they would have access to without these programs.
