Stories of Service - Duluth in the Cold War
Duluth in the Cold War (w.t.), will explore the major role of Duluth and surrounding towns (like Finland, MN) during the Cold War. Brigadier General Raymond Klosowski joined the 179th Fighter Interception Squadron as a fighter pilot in 1963 ' eventually becoming commander of the Minnesota Air National Guard. Raymond will be a key interview for this documentary, discussing the missile sites in our region as well as Duluth's role as an early warning system for nuclear attack. Duluth was an epicenter for command and control to launch aircraft in the case of attack. This documentary will tell that story.
The intention of this project is to engage with, honor, and provide content for our region's military, veterans, and their families. Organizations like Veterans Memorial Hall at the St. Louis Country Historical Society are working to capture the stories of 33,000 veterans from Northern Minnesota to keep their legacies alive for generations. Our work would assist in that mission and would help engage newer generations with the stories of the past. The hope is for viewers to report a new understanding of past events and the great role Minnesota has played in this history.
