Backroads
Ten new episodes of Backroads will be produced. Backroads is a live music program featuring local
musicians from across north central Minnesota on Lakeland PBS. Performances are recorded in front of a live
audience at the Rail River Folk School in Bemidji.
Backroads fulfills the goals of Legacy funding by exposing the citizens of north central Minnesota to local
musicians they might not otherwise be familiar with. Musicians featured on Backroads have noted that the
exposure gained through the broadcasts has helped them promote their performances and increase
awareness of their recorded work.
Viewers will report increase interest, understanding, and knowledge of north central Minnesota's
musicians. Increased revenue for participants (musicians featured in our productions) due to exposure.
Through the use of on-line surveys, such as our annual Program Preference Poll, we will gauge viewer
interest and understanding of the ACHF funded programs we produce. These on-line surveys will be
distributed via direct email to our station members and participants featured in our productions, and also via
our social media channels and website to the public at large. Questions within the surveys will be tailored to
measure impact on individuals or organizations that were featured in our productions, such as if they saw
increased revenue or business due to the exposure.
We utilize Survey Monkey to administer our on-line surveys, and tabulate the results afterwards for
internal review and guidance in developing future productions that will have important impact to our region.
Throughout the year, we seek viewer comments within our various ACHF productions, and document any
feedback received via email, phone calls, or letters. Viewer feedback is shared within our production team,
and also with our Community Advisory Council (CAC), to help inform and guide us in developing future
productions.
We will track our website views of our new ACHF funded programs after they have been posted.
Our Community Advisory Council (CAC) meets bi-monthly, and discussions are held within the group
about any new ACHF programs we have produced regarding their impact and relevance to our local region.
The Community Advisory Council (CAC) serves Lakeland PBS as a liaison to the board, management, and staff
of Lakeland PBS in regards to local, regional, and national programming recommendations that will help the
station fulfill its mission to educate, entertain, enrich, and enlighten the citizens of northern and central
Minnesota. The CAC meets every other month and consists individuals who reflect the diverse interests,
concerns, organizations, issues and populations of northern and central Minnesota. The CAC is open to
anyone who lives in the designated market area for Lakeland PBS and who has demonstrated an interest in
the station.
