A research phase was completed on background information related to creating a new exhibit on Mower County during World War II. To perform the research, their curator's hours were increased to determine exhibit themes, create a tentative floor plan for the exhibit, and determine cost estimates for an implementation project.
Their curator was able to identify themes relating to Mower County's contributions to World War II. Emphasis was placed on identifying soldiers and their experiences, activities at home that contributed to the war effort, and economic effects of the war on local businesses. By completing this research phase, the curator now has background information to move forward with the implementation of a new exhibit in 2014.
By completing this project, the Mower County Historical Society will now be able to create a new permanent exhibit that allows visitors to learn about Mower County during World War II. Additional oral histories can be gathered to enhance the understanding of this time period. With the new exhibit, the historical society will be able to create a new exhibit that meets museum standards and best practices, which in turn will showcase the professional abilities of their staff.
