DCHS Exhibit Guide Development & Production
The Dakota County Historical Society (DCHS) worked with a graphic designer to develop several templates for exhibit guides. The exhibit guides are short publications that promote and/or provide additional information about topics featured in DCHS exhibits and programs. Three different templates were developed, a two-sided 4" x 9" promotional card, a traditional three-fold brochure, and a booklet 5.5" x 8.5" that can be scaled in four-page increments. Each of these guides is immediately recognizable as a product of DCHS.
In addition to developing three templates, guides were written and produced for four exhibits:
Booklet - Vermillion Falls Walking Tour. At twelve pages this was longer than anticipated but includes a great deal of information, including an extensive bibliography for those interested in more details information. 2,000 copies produced.
Three-fold brochure - Meet George Daniels (formerly The George Daniels Story). 2,000 copies produced.
Promotional card - Three Cultures/China & From the Front/From the Front IV: Vietnam. Each of these pieces promotes both a series of exhibits (Three Cultures/From the Front) and the current iteration of the exhibit series (China/Vietnam). In future versions, DCHS will make the information regarding the physical location of each exhibit more prominent. 1,000 copies of each produced.
(b) Statewide Historic and Cultural Grants. (i) $2,250,000 in 2010 and $4,500,000 in 2011 are appropriated for history programs and projects operated or conducted by or through local, county, regional or other historical or cultural organizations; or for activities to preserve significant historic and cultural resources. Funds are to be distributed through a competitive grants process. The Minnesota Historical Society shall administer these funds using established grants mechanisms, and with assistance from the advisory committee created herein.
