Project Overview

Author, Erin Hart read and talked about her research here in Minnesota and in Ireland for the third book in her trilogy of mysteries. She was accompanied by the international travelling Irish musical group, Chulrua, in a free evening community event in St. Peter. Ms. Hart also spoke with St. Peter 5th graders during the day and Chulrua did a combination workshop/performance with senior citizens at the St. peter Senior Citizens Center.

104 5th graders, divided into two groups met with Erin Hart and learned about the writing process and how she conducted her research for her books. Seventy+ 5th graders answered questions on a short survey with 71 who responded that they thought Ms. Hart’s presentation was interesting.

54 senior citizens attended the concert/workshop at the St. Peter Senior Center. Thirty-nine of the 54 persons in attendance returned an evaluation form.

62 (mostly) adults attended the reading, signing and concert at Trinity Lutheran Church. Thirty-three of the 62 in attendance returned an evaluation form.

Measurable Outcome(s)

A short survey was given to all 5th graders and an evaluation form to the adults and students attending the programs on march 16.  Listed are a few outcomes/observations/anecdotal responses.  More are on file.  

  • Student - inspired after hearing Ms. Hart’s talk and excited to work on her own writing.  
  • Student - I want to buy all her books and read them!
  • Teacher – So pleased with the information given about the writing process and the author’s willingness to answer questions from the students and the quality of her slide presentation.
  • I now have an increased awareness of the history and joy of Irish music.
  • Enjoyed the toe tapping Irish music and the questions and answers.
  • So great to combine literature and music.
  • I wish Erin and Paddy could come every year for a session – WAY too fun and a delightful evening.
  • Great slides as well as great music and great words.
