Project Overview

Brimming with catchy songs and engaging stories that bring renowned COMPAS Teaching Musician Siama Matuzungidi's rural Congolese culture to life, this charming show features Siama's spirited singing, masterful acoustic guitar and captivating traditional African instruments like Mbira and Balafon. When Siama is joined by Dallas Johnson (singer/storyteller/hand percussionist) their harmonies are inspiring and their joy is contagious as they perform and encourage everyone to sing along.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

We posted a survey link on Facebook at the start of the program, and along with the video replay. We hoped patrons would have a new understanding and/or appreciation for the Congolese culture and music, and storytelling, and learn something new about both. We also hoped that patrons would leave with a stronger association of the library as a place to experience arts and cultural programming.

Measurable Outcome(s)

100% of respondents said they agree or strongly agree that this program brought their community a new cultural or artistic experience. 100% agreed or strongly agreed they learned something new about the arts, history or culture. 100% said after this program, they are likely or very likely to think of the library as a place to experience arts or cultural programming. Public comments included, "they were so fun, talented and engaging," and, "the singing was so joyful and it was so easy to participate."
