Drawing Together: A regional community art and storytelling experience
The Lake Agassiz Regional Library sponsored a community event called, Drawing Together: A regional community art and storytelling experience. The objective of this program was to work with community members of all ages across LARL to determine A.) The look of LARL's mascot, B.) LARL's mascot's name, C.) LARL's mascot's story. With over 200 participants from around the region, LARL was able to create Booker, LARL's new owl mascot. LARL used the illustrations and content from LARL residents while working with the Minneapolis based Vee Corporation to construct the mascot costume. Moving forward, the costume will be used to represent the Lake Agassiz Regional Library at community gatherings and programs for years to come. This program was funded partially with FY2015 Legacy funds ($1,240.55) and the balance was paid with FY2016 funds ($10,658.81).
253 participated
Community members of all ages will participate in drawing programs around the region, and use creative means to propose the illustration, name and story appropriate for a Minnesota library mascot. Forms will be used to solicit this information. Participants will have the opportunity to participate online or with paper in their local library or LINK Site.
Over 200 participants of all ages submitted drawings, names, stories and more to create the LARL mascot. Submissions were obtained in print and online from all over the region. In addition, drawing and illustration events held across the region, in conjunction with this program, were well received and appreciated by both parents and youth.
