Project Overview
A series of two events focusing on Norwegian culture, Exploring Norwegian Roots gave participants an opportunity to try their hands at rosemaling as well as to hear a first-hand account of the Norwegian immigrant experience.
The rosemaling class included both the history of and variety of styles that are part of rosemaling, as well as the opportunity to paint a cutting board to take home.
The Stavig Letters is a readers' theatre-style production featuring a narrator and two brothers who read actual letters written back and forth between Minnesota and Norway.
The library also featured a Norwegian display with a pathfinder of materials featuring Norwegians subjects.

Measurable Outcome(s)
Surveys for rosemaling indicated great interest in the history and detail of rosemaling styles and as expected, great delight in the actual experience of learning the techniques and painting a board.
Surveys for the Stavig Letters reflected a deeper understanding of their ancestors experience of leaving Europe and coming to a strange country whether Norwegian or not.
